Shadow work is the quietest form Chikankari takes — the embroidery worked from the reverse of the fabric so the stitch shows through as a soft, diffused outline rather than a sharp raised line. On pure white Georgette, that quietness becomes the entire point. A boxed floral-and-lattice panel anchors the yoke, more defined here than elsewhere on the kurti, before the pattern eases into a scattered diamond-and-floral motif that repeats through the body, sleeves and side border. Nothing on this kurti is loud. The white-on-white palette means every detail depends on the shift of light and the sheerness of the georgette to be visible at all — which is exactly what shadow work is built for. A tonal border finishes the cuffs and runs the length of the side seam, closing the piece with the same restraint it opens with. Sold as the kurti alone.

This kurti is made in pure Georgette — a lightweight fabric with a fine crinkled texture and a naturally fluid, semi-sheer drape. Georgette is the fabric shadow work embroidery depends on: because the stitching is worked from the wrong side of the cloth, it's the fabric's translucency that allows the softened outline to show through on the right side at all. A denser or opaque fabric wouldn't produce the same effect.

What this means for the wearer:

Lightweight and breathable — comfortable for extended wear, particularly suited to warm-weather and daytime dressing
Semi-sheer character that is essential to how shadow work reads — worth confirming lining/inner-layer details at the product-record level
Fluid drape that moves with the body rather than holding a stiff shape
A delicate fabric best handled with gentle, low-heat care

Note: fabric composition (100% Georgette vs. a blend) and comes with a inner lining.

Since this listing is for the kurti only, styling suggestions below are pairing ideas — not included items.

As styled (Heritage-ready): Paired with matching white palazzo pants, as shown, for a fully tonal, bridal-adjacent or festive-white look that lets the shadow work embroidery carry the entire outfit. Suited to daytime celebrations, Eid or festive-white dressing, or any occasion that calls for craft-forward simplicity over colour.

Reinterpreted, contemporary routes:

With cream or ivory straight trousers — a close-tonal pairing that softens the pure white slightly without losing the monochrome effect.
With wide-leg denim — the sheerness and shadow embroidery against structured denim creates a quieter version of the classic heritage-meets-contemporary contrast.
Layered over a plain slip or camisole in a soft contrast tone — lets the semi-sheer georgette and embroidery read intentionally, particularly useful for settings that call for more definition through the body.
With gold, pearl, or antique-silver jewellery — since the embroidery itself is deliberately quiet, jewellery is where a wearer can choose to add more or less presence to the look.

Footwear: flat sandals or juttis for daywear; a low heel for evening or festive settings.

The embroidery on this kurti is worked in shadow work (saya), one of the Chikankari family's most technically distinct stitches — embroidered from the reverse of the fabric so that the thread shows through the semi-sheer georgette as a soft, blurred outline rather than sitting visibly on the surface. It's a technique that depends on restraint: the effect is deliberately understated, built for closer looking rather than immediate impact.

What's visible on this piece:

A boxed floral-and-lattice panel at the yoke, the most defined area of embroidery on the kurti, framing the keyhole neckline
A scattered diamond-and-floral motif repeating through the body and sleeves, spaced with intentional gaps so the sheer georgette shows through between motifs
A tonal border along the cuffs, echoing the diamond motif in a contained band
A matching border running the length of the side seam, giving the straight silhouette a finished, considered edge

Because shadow work is worked in white-on-white here, with no colour contrast to lean on, the entire visual effect depends on the interplay between thread density, fabric sheerness and light — which is precisely what makes it one of the more technically demanding forms within the Chikankari family to execute cleanly.
